PARAGRAPH PLAN

1. Setting the scene.

    • Where and when the events took place. The main characters.

2. Development

    • Main events in the story.

3. Ending

    • What happened at the end?. Mention the consequences of the story and what relevance it has for the characters.

 

STRUCTURES YOU NEED TO KNOW TO WRITE A NARRATIVE

1. Verbal tenses. We generally use:

  • Past simple.
  • Past continuous: to describe activities in progress at the tome of your story or to describe the background.
  • Past perfect: to refer to actions that happened earlier in the past.

2. Linking words (to link your ideas): because, as a result, although, in short.

3. Expressions of time (they are very important in this kind of writing as they indicate the order of events): last year; one day/ night; I/ she realized...; Suddenly; then... ; later...; eventually; gradually; a few days later...; on the following day...
